Déierepark – where party animals meet actual animals

I’m baaack! So much has been going on in the last few months but sometimes you just need to take a step back, asses the situation and decide it’s time for tea and knitting.

However, the times has come to update you so let’s start with fun stuff – we’ve had a few weeks and by busy I mean fun! 🙂 Summer graced us with its presence  and since we never know how long it will last, we make sure to take full advantage of any warmth and sun we get. It might be 4°C in July. During the day. Like last year!

Anyway, at the beginning of the month we went to a local zoo, and after a 3-day working week, the fun resumed. On Ascension Day, which was a day off for us, it was time for our annual rendez-vous with Spillfest, literally playfestival. Friday we went to the circus and then finally, on Saturday, the marathon came to town; apart from being a huge gathering of people, accompanied by music, street food and drinks, Marko run the 21km so, obviously, we went to cheer for him. After trying our best to emulate the wildest party animals, Sunday was spent chilling on the couch, reading, cleaning and going for walks to sooth sore muscles.Last one, was another long weekend, which meant a visit to a Celtic festival,  a dinosaur park and a day spent at a theme park.collageVSE 1024x1024 - Déierepark - where party animals meet actual animals

Speaking of animals, there’s a really nice mini-zoo close to us, free of charge, with animal feed offered at the entrance and with loads of grassy patches to set a picnic blanket on and feed my own cubs. Pasta salads packed with cherry tomatoes and mozzarella has always been our go-to for such occasions and so we found ourselves gobbling down the Italian delicacy surrounded by deer, guinea pigs and different species of parrots. with an ensuing doze.collageEsch 1024x1024 - Déierepark - where party animals meet actual animals

As already mentioned, it’s a small zoo with mostly farm animals but it still offers loads of fun! As the official site states, there are 25 different species to form an army of 150 animals in all. We walked around exploring shady paths and collecting ticks (the most horrible beasts, according to Marko), while  the children picked leaves and grass to feed to the animals.

In between one feed and another, there’s been even some dabbing going on, combined with other dance moves, more difficult to define and possibly aimed at scaring. Whether the animals or the passer-by, remains unknown to this day.

There are playgrounds spread all across the park, ingeniously designed in such a way as to bring the children right among the animals, whilst being protected by a fence, wiry tunnels or height. And while your pups mingle with fawns and lambs, you can take a much deserved break (i.e. selfie with hubby). The real discovery, though, was the new Bamhauscafe, quite literally the treehouse café. It’s a system of bridges and small cottages, culminating in a café with a playground, unfortunately closed at the time of our visit.

Nevertheless, we left the park tired but gleeful, with one final photograph.
