So, we had an eventful weekend, lovelies. Our KarateKid had his very first tournament and it was as thrilling as you can imagine, if not more! From the minute he woke up everything revolved around the afternoon competition and upon arrival at the venue, things got real! First, he changed into his kimono
and as soon as he was out on the mat the warming up began. It was not only him bubbling with excitement but us as well, since it was the first time we would see him in action. It’s strange how your child, who once spent every single moment by your side from the second he was born, all of a sudden has a life of his own that you are not a part of and know nothing about. Each training, the door gets closed, effectively shutting the parents out with no knowledge of what goes on on the other side of the door. If you are lucky enough to have a child who’s favourite response is: ˝I don’t remember anymore,˝ to most questions about his day, karate practice might as well be about voodoo for all you know. Therefore, seeing him all serious, concentrated and karate-like was great fun!
After that, the waiting game’s turn came. Since his age group was the last one on the schedule, we had over 3 hours to kill. And the preparations leading up to the fight were intense, let me tell you! They consisted of some goofing around,
wasting time on mommy’s phone,
the unmissable ˝I’m boooored!˝ moment, which I guess was an excuse to get cuddles
and, obviously, selfies!
But finally his moment came! We could barely contain the excitement, giggling, shouting his name, jittering all around the mat waving at him. He put on his protective gear, lifted both fists in (premature) victory and went into battle. After fighting valiantly, he scored his very first point!
Oh, the joy! Oh, the pride! Oh, bone-shattering hug! The emotions were flying so high that my KarateKid fell asleep in the car on the way back home.
So a wonderful start of the week to all and to all a good night!
