Everything must come to an end. But before that, we made sure to pay tribute to the past.
Franja Partisan Hospital operated as an illegal hospital during WWII. One of many such hospital on the Slovene territory, it is the only one which has never been discovered, despite the enemy soldiers coming twice to the immediate vicinity of it, thanks to a grueling and backbreaking access through a creek. Beside the staff, by building the huts, hiding the wounded in their homes and collecting food, medicines and other materials, the locals also contributed massively to the success of the hospital, which treated friendly and enemy soldiers alike and has thus became a unique monument of humanity, companionship and solidarity.
Soon after the war it was expressed that the hospital “must be preserved as visible evidence of what love for freedom is capable of producing ”.
And so after a live history lesson, armed with sandwiches and treats, we embarked on our journey back north.
